This question was explored through the insights of four students- Junior Carreno, Estrella Patino, Brandon Maldonando, and Tanner Ketcham- each with their unique perspectives on the daily commute.
Carreno, Senior, enjoys the social aspect of riding the bus, believing that it allows him to connect with friends before the school day reigns. Describing it as a “mobile hangout”, he can chat and joke with his classmates, making the ride feel shorter and more enjoyable.
On the other hand, Patino, Senior, prefers the independence that comes with driving, stating, “When I drive, I can listen to my music and start my day on my terms.” For her, having control over her commute is essential, as it allows her to mentally prepare for the day ahead. The comfort of her car and the freedom to choose her route make driving a more appealing option.
Maldonado, Senior, finds himself in between the two options; he appreciates the convenience of the bus but enjoys the thrill of driving, noting, “ I like the bus because I can relax, but driving gives me a sense of responsibility.” He sees both modes of transportation as beneficial depending on his mood, as some das he preferred the laid-back atmosphere of the bus while other das he relishes the excitement of hitting the road.
Ketcham, however, is firmly in the bus, stating, “It’s just easier.” He finds that riding the bus eliminates the stress of traffic and parking while enjoying fellow passengers, believing that they share his experience with him.
