Summer is just around the corner and approaching quickly. Do you have plans for the summer? If so, that’s amazing, but this feature could give you even more ideas just in case. If you don’t have any plans yet, then you’re definitely in the right place.
Sometimes living in Utah seems like there’s nothing to do. There’s no need to travel far to make the most of summer. There are many fun local things to do this summer, ranging from small-town events to many outdoor activities. These include things like farmers’ markets, car shows, city days, rodeos, or even just going to get some yummy food. I couldn’t possibly list every single thing you could do this summer to have a fun time. However this is a starting point so you can do some more research on your favorites.

In the summertime, Utah can get quite hot. Some ways you can cool off are swimming or perhaps getting a cold sweet treat. There’s a variety of pools that you can go to that are nearby, like North Ogden Aquatic Center, Roy City Aquatic Center, and North Shore Aquatic Center. As well as Cherry Hills, a water park, in Kaysville or the water park at Lagoon in Farmington. Or, maybe you’re searching for something more in nature like Willard Bay or Pineview Reservoir. For a cold sweet treat, there are endless options. Some frozen yogurt at Menchies or some Italian ice at Zeppes. Many snow cone and shaved ice shacks like to open up at this time of year, you’ll find them stationed around just every corner.
Not feeling any of these options? How about camping or hiking? These are the options for the very outdoorsy people. Ogden has extremely popular hiking and mountain biking trails. A few include Waterfall Canyon, Taylor Canyon, Hidden Valley, and Beus Canyon Trail. A good way to get your steps in, get some fresh air and just relax with your friends. There aren’t many camping locations nearby that don’t require a long drive. There are some amazing campgrounds more up north but we’re going to try and name some closer ones. For example Anderson Cove Campground and Adams Canyon Bridge Campground. Watching the stars, building a campfire, and sitting with all your friends roasting marshmallows. How about fishing? Some places that you could go fishing are Cold Springs Trout Farm, Twenty-First Street Pond, and Glasmann Pond.

Lastly, we have some options that didn’t really fit into any of the previous categories, but can still be just as fun. The Farmers Market on Historic 25th Street in Ogden is a popular place in the summertime. A lively festival of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, floral arrangements, and handcrafted goods. Visitors can enjoy summer treats and live outdoor performances perfect for the warm weather. Historic 25th Street also has a big car show event that turns its streets into a stunning showcase of classic, vintage, and modern vehicles. There are also just car shows in random store parking lots or at schools, so if you’re into cars and all that make sure to be on the lookout.
Perhaps in a whole different direction is rodeos. One of the biggest local ones we have is the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo. Ranked as one of the top outdoor rodeos in the country, this annual event includes parades and concerts.
And lastly one, that is a little farther but not too bad, is Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington. Lagoon offers countless things to do like rides, a water park, pioneer village, seasonal events, food and refreshments, an RV park, a campground, and a walking trail outside the park.
As you can see, summer in Utah doesn’t have to be boring or uneventful. Whether you’re into outdoor adventures, relaxing by the water, exploring local events, or just grabbing a tasty treat, there’s something for everyone right here close to home. So start making your list, grab your friends or family, and make the most of the sunny, summer days ahead. No need to travel far; this summer could be your most fun and memorable one yet, right where you live.
