Leaving High school is a big step for all students. It is the main change in all our lives that separates childhood and teenagehood from adulthood. How have our senior SBOs made an impact for their last year at school and as the first graduating class here at West Field High?
From our time of birth up until the age of 18, there is a rough draft plan for our lives. We learn a ton, we go to school, make friends, try out new skills and talents, develop our characters and individual personalities, find our likes and dislikes, and get an idea of what life is like. For 13 years, we went to school and this made up many of our experiences. Making senior year, the last year of school, paramount.

As a kickoff to the rest of our lives, how have our senior SBOs made an impact this year at West Field? This was compounded by the fact that West Field was a new school. Slade Erickson said “I decided to do student government because I wanted to start traditions at the new school and make an impact in people’s lives.” He added “I thought it was exciting that we were all going to be at a new school and that we’d all have chosen to be here. I wanted to make a difference and make the first year at West Field great.”

Olivia Kapp, SBO president, added “Being the first people in the school, we’ve set the tone and lead the legacy for the sophomores and those coming in saying, one of Kapp’s goals has been to set the standard, “We are Westfield, this is how we do things, and this is what we want our school to be like.” she added “It’s a kind of fresh start, we are in the first year and we’ve established such a great community and bonded here at WF.”

Ella Reynolds sums it up beautifully saying “I wanted to get involved with West field because it’s so new.” Continuing, she adds, “I think we all were a good class to lead the school. I’m very grateful for everyone that decided to come to West Field. Our legacy will forever carry on.”
Erickson spoke of the difficulties included, “We were starting from scratch and that’s how everything went this year. Next year and the years following, they’ll have momentum and things will go better.” Erickson thinks that in future years, West Field student government will have an easier time because of the work they have put in this year. He added, “It’s sometimes hard for us to see the good that we’ve done, but I think our impact will come in years to follow. I don’t think we’ll see it until 10 years down the road then they look back at us and what we have achieved.”
From dances to socials and dunk tanks at club carnival, the senior SBOs have planned and carried out an amazing year that is going to live in our memories and scrapbooks forever. Looking back, we could not have had a better senior year or senior class. As the first graduating class at West Field we have set the bar high for the future generations that will attend this beautiful school family. Thank you to our SBOs for all that they planned and carried out to make this year memorable. See you for our reunion in 2050, class of 2025! Go Longhorns!
