Do you need to spend a good amount of money on a gym membership, or can you still make optimal gains from a school gym? No, not all the time do you need to spend hundreds of dollars a year for a membership when you have a gym at school. There are pros and cons to both.
The pros of having a school gym are being able to have people push you. Another pro is that you get daily exercise, being able to do workouts and cardio. You could also improve your social life by meeting new people with the same goals you have. According to Absolute Performance, an article online, they said, “Relying on fellow students for support during a workout in terms of spotting or motivation helps students form friendships they may not have without this shared interest.” This proves that people can make some friends with similar interests and push each other to accomplish their goals.
The cons about going to a school gym are overexertion, pushing yourself beyond your limits, and then failing and getting injured. Peer pressure is another con. Sometimes people will get peer pressured to do something that they have never done, and then get injured. In a different article, provided by a law firm, they claim, “For example, a gym teacher might push a student harder than they should.” In addition, they also say, “This is not only unacceptable, but it also makes the teacher and the school liable for any harm the child suffers.” This proves that sometimes even the teachers could push the kids past their limits. This states that teachers or students could have higher expectations of you and want more than you have.
In conclusion, the school gym isn’t bad, nor is it good. One reason for it being good is that people are there to see you and help you. Also, you can make new friends with similar goals that will help you achieve them and even surpass them. One thing bad about it is that peers and even teachers can push you to your limits and possibly hurt yourself or, worse, get an injury. It is not a bad idea if you are trying to start working out, but just make sure someone trustworthy is there to watch over you.
